Repost from the Town of Pike Road: Looking for something fun to do this summer? Check out the activities happening every week at the Pike Road Branch Library in Pike Road Station on Vaughn Road. 

Toddler Time: Ages 1-3, Wednesdays at 10 a.m.

• Toddler Time includes singing, reciting nursery rhymes, and reading one story each week.
• June dates: June 7, 14, 21, 28

Storybook Time: Ages 3-6, Mondays at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

• Storybook Time includes singing songs, reading 1-3 picture books, and making a craft.  The 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. sessions will read the same books. This summer, the theme is “Build a Better World.”
  • June 5: “Build a Better World” – In Roadwork and Demolition by Sally Sutton and Brian Lovelock, people use skills and equipment to build a road and turn an old building into a very special place.
  • June 12: “Build a Better Bear” – A little girl’s teddy bear is in dire need of a makeover in Best Friend Bear by Tony Johnston and Joy Allen.
  • June 19: Owl and Rabbit are so focused on building better houses that their desire to have the better home threatens to demolish their friendship. We’ll see if they can work it out when we readToo Tall Houses by Gianna Morino.
  • June 26: We’ll say, “Good night!” to construction equipment when we read Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site by Sherri Duskey Rinker and Tom Lichtenheld.

“Build a Better World” Summer Events for Ages 5-10

• June 6: Build a Better World with Water with special guests from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management
• June 13: Build a Better Story with Tommy Johns, magician and puppeteer
• June 20: Build a Historical World with special guests from the Alabama Department of Archives and History
• June 27: Build a Cleaner World with The Talking Tree from the Montgomery Clean City Commission

Brick Clickers

• Each week, builders ages 5 and up are invited to tackle a new challenge by creating something awesome with the library’s Lego collection.
• June Dates: June 7, June 14, June 21, June 28 during regular library hours

Book Clubs

• Angry Dragons (3rd Grade & Up) – On Thursday, June 15 at 4:15 p.m., the Dragons will discuss The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.
• Angry Dragons Book/Movie Comparison – On Thursday, June 22 at 2:30 p.m., the Dragons will view the film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and briefly compare the book and the movie.
• Pike Road Bookies – Meet on the third Thursday of each month, except December – On Thursday, June 15 at 11:15 a.m., the Bookies will discuss The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson.
