Growing up Pike Road
08/18
Pike Road continues to grow, and Pike Road Schools is growing right along with it.
From the new high school campus taking shape on Wallahatchie Road to newly announced plans for the Pike Road Intermediate School, the Pike Road School District is making significant investments in additional classrooms, updated facilities, and dedicated spaces for each stage of learning.
A New High School Nears Completion
Construction continues on the new Pike Road High School, a 73-acre campus on Wallahatchie Road designed to serve approximately 1,500 students in grades 9–12. The campus will include 65 classrooms, along with expanded academic and athletic facilities. High school students are expected to begin the 2026–2027 school year at the Georgia Washington campus before moving into the new high school following the holiday break. The transition will mark a historic moment for the district. The Class of 2027 is expected to become the first senior class to graduate from the new campus.
A Dedicated Middle School Campus
Once high school students relocate to Wallahatchie Road, the Georgia Washington campus will become a dedicated middle school serving grades 6–8. Sixth-grade students are expected to move from Pike Road Intermediate School to the Historic Georgia Washington campus in January. The move will bring grades 6, 7, and 8 together on one campus and create additional room for improvements at the Intermediate School.
Major Expansion Planned for Pike Road Intermediate
Pike Road Schools recently announced plans for a significant addition to its historic Intermediate School campus at the corner of Pike Road and Flinn Road. The proposed addition will include 35 classrooms and increase the campus capacity from approximately 700 to 1,100 students. The new building is expected to run along Flinn Road beside the existing school rather than connect directly to it. The announcement follows other recently completed improvements at the Intermediate School. The former gymnasium has been converted into a new cafeteria space, six new classrooms, and four renovated classrooms for fifth-grade students. Construction of a new gym is also underway. School leaders are continuing to study traffic patterns around the campus, to coordinate access improvements with the planned construction.

Growing for the Future
Together, these projects represent more than individual campus improvements. They will create a dedicated high school for grades 9–12, a true middle school campus for grades 6–8, and additional capacity at Pike Road Intermediate School. The result will be more room for the district to serve its growing enrollment while continuing to develop learning environments tailored to different grade levels. Pike Road Schools has grown considerably since opening its doors, and this next chapter reflects the continued growth and investment happening throughout the Town of Pike Road.
At The Waters, residents enjoy direct access to Pike Road Elementary School through our Trail to Education. As the community and school district continue to grow together, we are excited to watch these new spaces take shape and welcome the opportunities they will bring for Pike Road’s future.
