Pike Road resident Dr. Everett Marshall provides optometry services for the River Region at Downtown Eye Care in Montgomery, where he became the sole owner in July of 2013. He is grateful to the community for the continued success of the business, and he has made it his mission to provide quality care and customer service to his patients.
Born and raised in Montgomery, Marshall graduated cum laude from the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s School of Optometry in May 2007 before returning to Montgomery to start his practice.
“I am a third-generation Montgomery native, and it was only natural that I came back to my hometown after graduating. I certainly feel like Montgomery has grown and is a much better city than when I left. It is growing immensely, and there has never been a better time to be a resident of this area,” Marshall said.
As Montgomery continues to grow, Marshall hopes that Downtown Eye Care, which has seen a steady stream of patient influx, will grow with it.
“The business is progressing along with downtown Montgomery, and I hope it will continue to do so for many years. Both the city and the business have seen tremendous growth, and it’s my hope that the city puts resources into continuing to make the city expand. My hope and plan for the business is to mature along with the city,” Marshall said.
Marshall strives to provide the best care to his patients and understands that the downtown area is busy with people who need timely and quality attention.
“My biggest goal is having great personal service and having a small town feel where you don’t have to wait an hour to see the doctor. The landscape of healthcare has changed, and it’s becoming less personalized. My staff and I try to make things focused around the patient instead of the doctor. There are a lot of downtown workers who take time off to make an appointment, and we try to make sure they spend as little time as possible waiting.
For Marshall, his work as an optometrist becomes especially fulfilling when given the chance to help young children improve their vision.
“What I love the most is helping kids see better. As a kid who wore glasses from a young age, I remember the feeling of being able to see properly for the first time when I put on glasses. That aspect of what I do is what I find most rewarding,” Marshall said.
Marshall’s wife, Lauren, serves as the business manager and optician of the business. The two have two children and relocated to Pike Road for its community-driven atmosphere and new school system.
“Pike Road was the first place we thought of when we considered moving. I knew it was an area that was growing and that there was a school system that was about to start. My daughter is a first-grader at Pike Road School, and she was a big part of our decision to move out here. Our son will begin school there next year, and we wanted them to be able to go to a hometown school with all of their neighbors,” Marshall said.
Marshall is enthusiastic about what lies ahead both for Pike Road and Montgomery as each area continues to thrive.
“I’m excited for the future of Montgomery. I work and live in places that almost didn’t exist during my childhood. Twenty years ago downtown Montgomery didn’t have a stadium and all of the other things that have developed in the area. Now I work downtown and live in Pike Road, a town which didn’t exist when I grew up here. It’s all very nice to see,” Marshall said.
Marshall is an Infancy Provider who gives a no-cost eye exam to children between the ages of six months to a year. He is also a Sight Saver Provider who helps to give eye exams to those without coverage.
In his free time, Marshall enjoys watching Auburn football, fishing, outdoor sports, and spending time with his wife and children.
